Currently, the top 1% of earners pay 40% of the taxes. John McCain favors maintaining this absurdly unfair situation. Barack Obama wants to loot the top 1% even more.

If we’re going to have taxes, how exactly is it "fair" to have different people pay different amounts? What other organization charges people more if they are rich than if they are poor? If we were to reform the tax system to be fair (everybody pays the exact same amount), would we finally see a reduction in the size of government instead of the bigger and bigger government that Democrats and Republicans support?

Alternately, couldn’t we abolish taxation and run the government by voluntary contributions? Would a system of competing firms in the area of protecting person and property from criminals be superior to the current system?

Should McCain and Obama be ashamed of themselves for their shameful act of advocating socialistic economic policies?

This year I have been working for a company that pays cash, with no taxes taken out. I’m kind of worried cause next year when I file for taxes I might not qualify for the earned income child credit. I went to the H&R Block website to try their tax calculator, to get an estimate of what I might be getting next year. I put I got "another source of income ", and the results say I won’t be getting anything back, but I put "self employed" and I might be getting something back. So do I say I was self employed? Also I know I’m gonna have to pay alot of back taxes, how do I know how much I’m gonna have to pay back?

if there are no breaks can someone put what they normally make per hour and consider it a donation? Giving money would be easier for me, and apparently more beneficial, but I think it’d do more good to give time

Regarding Obama’s proposal to lift the cap on the payroll tax (Which could increase effective tax rates to over 50% just federally in the maximum brackets, according to the WSJ) – what do you think of this argument.

I am so against this proposal personally. But when talking with a friend the other day who is self employed. He told me that he really needs about ,000 to live comfortably each year, but as it stands now it is a goal of his every year to earn as much as he can over 0,000 and work as hard as possible to earn as much over the 0k threshhold because his effective tax rate GEOS DOWN about 15% because Payroll taxes are no longer collected. He still pays i think 28% federally- but no payroll tax.

So he said he’d have no motivation to earn more than 100k and would just work a lot less if the cap was lifted. He said his motivation to earn more than that amount would be gone if the cap was lifted.

So what do you think could this proposal actually hurt the economy more?

I am a National Guardsman. I served in Iraq in 2004… all of 2004. My Iraq time vs. Iraq time now is considerably diffferent. I was Extremely opposed to my wife volunteering for a deployment to Iraq. Unfortunately, my wife is always searching for constant approval from her mother. Her mother (an apex, alpha female) encouraged my wife into going on the deployment for the "employment opportunity" that it presents.
The deployment has been tough for me and the mom has been constantly putting ideas in my wife’s head not at all supportive of me. A few weeks ago, I received an email that read, "I’ve decided to join the State Department and live a life abroad working in International Deplomacy". I asked how I fit into that, and she stopped communicating with me. My wife then started telling her family and friends that I was clingy and crazy. The more I tried to save the marriage, the more clingy and crazy I appeared. Last week, she hired an attorney and wants a divorce. I live in Virginia (i should probably mention that fact).
When she departed on the deployment she left me with @15K in debt she had coming into the marriage. During the entire deployment – now 4 months in, I have not received one dime from her. Her attorney has ordered a protective order keeping me from the marital home and my wife’s property – real and otherwise. I’ve also been told by her attorney that I can’t contact anyone in the military. (ummmm, I work for the military as a Department of the Army Civilian)
I’ve hired an attorney. My question. WHAT THE FU#@ AM CAN I DO? I am very spiritual and have a lot of problems with divorces as this will be my second. 1st divorce came after my deployment.
I want to save the marriage but I have mentally prepared myself that it’s over. HOWEVER; I am not conceding any of the pay and allowances that are due to me…. Please tell me what I can do.
