Found voluntary taxation in John Stossel On Taxes Part 1

voluntary taxation:

I would see a flat tax or a fair tax as an improvement to the current system. I would prefer the fair tax but without the rebate as I see that as a foot in the door. It is also to high. I would like to see a transition to a voluntary form of taxation but with government the size it is now that is not practical. Found child tax credit in Is the child tax credit and economic stimulas check deposited at the same time?

child tax credit:

Question by kris: Is the child tax credit and economic stimulas check deposited at the same time?
I got my rebate check direct deposited this morning, however it was only $ 1,200, we have two children thus it should have been $ 600 more. My accountant said it would be $ 1800 when we got our taxes done, so that is what I expected. Could I be getting 2 seperate deposits-1 for the rebate check and one for the child tax credit? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks so much for your help!

Best answer:

Answer by SunElaine
You will not be receiving two payments. Most likely your accountant figured out your rebate incorrectly. You probably only qualified for $ 600 (the minimum) for married filing jointly. Remember, it said UP TO $ 1200 for married filing jointly. And then, you got $ 600 ($ 300 for each child) bringing your total payment to $ 1200. Many people overlooked the fact that the $ 600 and $ 1200 amounts were minimums and maximums.

Your payment will be explained when you receive the letter from the IRS. In the meantime, however, visit the IRS web site to get the same info that is included in the letter. Here’s how:

Click on Rebate Payment Questions.
Click on Where’s My Stimulus Payment?
Click on Where’s My Stimulus Payment?
Enter your SSN, filing status, and number of exemptions.

You will get a detailed explanation of your payment. It will tell you how much you got and why. It will also tell you when it was deposited, but you already know that!

Also, the Child Tax Credit is mostly unrelated to the Stimulus Payments. You already received your Child Tax Credit when you received your income tax refund.

Found voluntary taxes in Why does IRS keep telling everyone that the Income Tax is based on VOLUNTARY…

voluntary taxes:

Director of the Free Enterprise Society for over 20 years has been searching for the Law that requires the average American to file and pay the Federal Income Tax. During these 20 years, Steve has been educating and lecturing Americans on the subject of the Income Tax . Although the IRS has regularly sent agents to spy on Steve and his Organization for many of these years, the IRS has never shown Him what law requires Steve or the average American to file and pay income taxes. Plus, if the Federal Income Tax is based on voluntary compliance of the people, why is the IRS trying to make it mandatory on all of us! Come and hear from this courageous man’s experience in dealing with the IRS beast. www.freeenterprisesociety.com Freedom Law School Speaker: Steve Hempfling Host: Peymon Mottahedeh

Found social security voluntary tax withholding in Which political party is honsest about Social Security?

social security voluntary tax withholding:

Question by ublion: Which political party is honsest about Social Security?
What happened with this promise?
Franklin D. Roosevelt promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $ 1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent “Trust Fund” rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government Program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to “put away,” you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent “Trust” fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the “tie-breaking” deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

MY FAVORITE

A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments!

The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.

Found tax return preparation in Tax return preparation?

tax return preparation:

Question by Rocker Michael: Tax return preparation?
I have a case study about tax return. If a tax preparer amended prior year’s tax return because a client doesn’t want to pay his mortgage on his home, what could the consequences be if it was amended or if it was not amended? Are there any legal consequences in this situation?
Sorry guys~ maybe I didn’t describe the situation clearly. The situation is that a junior tax preparer is hired to prepare a tax return for a client. He notice that this client had a home mortgage interest expense tax deduction recorded. Thus, he asked this client if the client had any mortgage interest tax deduction for the current year. The client said he never had a mortgage on his home. Therefore, this junior tax preparer wonder if he should amend prior year’s tax return.
My question: what could the consequences be if it was amended or if it was not amended? Are there any legal consequences in this situation?

Paying your mortgage doesn’t have anything to do with taxes but the mortgage interest is what is ded and dealing with the irs always has consequences. If you have certain questions go to irs.gov ask your question and it will direct you to the rules

There are weekly tables in the IRS publications. Do not create your own.

Found income tax return in When filing an income tax return, do I need to include insurance refund from auto accident?

income tax return:

Question by remembranze: When filing an income tax return, do I need to include insurance refund from auto accident?
When filing an income tax return, do I need to include insurance refund from auto accident? My car was total loss. My insurance pay off my loan for the car and gave me back $ 6000 after the payoff. Do I need to report this when filing my income tax return?

Best answer:

Answer by bostonianinmo
Assuming that they paid you the fair market value of the car, and that that was less than you paid for it in the first place, you do not need to claim that on your tax return.
